New submissionsThe material in any new submitted paper should be original, and hence cannot be already published nor can it be under review elsewhere. If the paper is based on any prior publication in a copyrighted conference proceedings, its contents must be substantially different from the conference version(s). You should indicate in detail how the journal paper differs from the relevant conference paper or paper(s). In particular, the additional original contribution in the journal paper has to be pointed out explicitly. In the journal paper, the conference paper(s) has (have) to be cited and discussed as any other paper in the list of references. |
Submitted articles may be of five basic types (The above maximum sizes include the space needed for all the figures, tables and references) :
Survey papers - Extensive reviews of established or emerging research topics or application areas. (Click on the link for detailed information)
Papers - Detailed discussion involving new research, applications or developments. [nominally 10 printed pages, i.e. 10 000 words.]
Brief papers - Brief presentations of new technical concepts and developments. [nominally 6 printed pages, i.e. 6000 words.]
Technical communiqués - New useful ideas and brief pertinent comments of a technical nature. [nominally 4 printed pages, i.e. 4000 words.]
Correspondence Items - Letters to the Editor-in-Chief about the journal or comments on previously published papers. The authors of commented-on papers will be given an opportunity to respond. Extensions to published papers should not be submitted as correspondence items. [nominally 2 printed pages, i.e. 2000 words.]
Prepare your paper in the form of a self-contained pdf file (with the extension .pdf). You may wish to consult the FAQ How do I create pdf file of my paper? The maximal file size is 2 MB.
The submission system requires the pdf file to be compliant to ensure that other users may open and read the file. After logging in you may use the pdf test to check if your file is compliant. If the file is not compliant you will not be able to upload it.
Select the “Submit new /revised paper” link at the upper left of this page to go to the Automatica paper review management system Pampus+.
Follow the link Log in and log in with your PIN (or Login alias) and password. See the section PIN and Login Alias if you do not have a PIN and password.
On your Access page, use the link Pdf test to check that your file is compliant.
On your Access page, follow the link Submit a new paper to Automatica.
Select a type of submission category under which you wish to submit your contribution.
Select the Editor whose subject area best fits the topic of your submission.
Complete the required steps.
If you have coauthors then you will be asked to enter their PINs. It is best to check with your coauthors to obtain their PINs and to ask them to register themselves if they do not.
After successfully submitting the paper you will receive an acknowledgement by e-mail.
You may expect to see the status of your paper change over time from "Received" to "Under review" and eventually to "Decision pending." You may also update your contact information whenever necessary.
In due time the editor who handles your paper will notify you about the publication decision.
If the editor who handles your paper requests you to revise and resubmit your paper then please do this. Only the corresponding author may submit the revised manuscript.
Prepare a revised version of the paper in pdf format in accordance with the instructions of the editor. The maximal file size is 2 MB.
Prepare a response to the comments of the reviewers, Associate Editor, and Editor in the form of a text file (with the extension .txt) or pdf file (with the extension .pdf). Without this response you cannot upload the resubmission.
Select the “Submit new /revised paper” link at the upper left of this page to go to the Automatica paper review management system Pampus+.
Follow the link Log in and log in with your PIN (or Login alias) and password.
If you originally submitted your paper under the old submission and review system (before July 18, 2008) then you will also need to log in with your PIN and password. See the section PIN and Login Alias if you do not have a PIN and password. The e-mail that you received from the system has complete instructions.
On the Access page use the link Pdf test to check that your pdf files are compliant.
On your Access page, enter your Author workspace.
If the previous version of your paper was submitted under the old system (before July 18, 2008) then you may not find your paper in your Author workspace. In this case you will need to use the Legacy login link on the Access page. The e-mail message that you received from the Editor has full instructions.
Locate your paper on your Author workspace page and click on the link Resubmit.
Complete the required steps.
After resubmitting the paper you will receive an acknowledgement by e-mail.
Again you may expect to see the status of your paper change from "Received" to "Under review" and eventually to "Decision pending" until you hear from the Editor who handles your paper.
If the editor who handles your paper invites you to prepare and submit your paper in final form then please do this. Only the corresponding author may submit the final version.
Prepare a revised version of the paper in pdf format in accordance with the instructions of the editor. The maximal file size is 2 MB.
Check the final version using the checklist for the final version of accepted papers (in a new window or tab).
Prepare the source files of the paper for submission.
Prepare the biographical sketches (txt or MS Word only) and the authors' photographs (300 dpi, jpg preferred). This material is not required for Technical Communiques, Correspondence Items, Book and Software reviews. The sketches and photos should be packaged together in a single zip file. For best results send the original graphics files and do not include them in a Word file. Only files with the extension .zip or .doc are accepted. The maximal file size is 2 MB.
